Jugador, entrenador y dirigente de baloncesto estadounidense. En 1981 llevó a la Universidad de Indiana al título nacional universitario. Como conductor de los Detroit Pistons (
1981–94), acumuló en su carrera un total de 9.061 asistencias y ayudó al equipo a ganar dos títulos de la NBA (1989 y 1990); se lo considera uno de los mejores armadores de todos los tiempos. Luego fue gerente general y accionista de los Toronto Raptors y después dirigió a los Indiana Pacers.
